We are immensely grateful for the spaces of recreation and regeneration we created in 2022. Looking back, it is difficult to capture the myriad of active ways we quickly set in implementation of the activities of African Way AW Association registered in Lisbon on 1st October 2021.
To find a new host community for African Way we were inspired to organize the 1st Eco Camp in Montemor-o-Novo; took part alongside our associate partner CAMPINTEGRA in the Feira da Diversidade in Vilar Formoso, Almeida; took part in designing an Permaculture for refugees curriculum in Catalonia, Spain; we started our partnership with Rede ECOLISE / Communities for Future; and joined in solidarity campaigns of other organizations here in Portugal.
As a young organization we see that our greatest achievement is that in the eyes of the world in disarray because of the world crisis, we stood together as a team.
We set a precedence with the Eco Camp as a regenerative social business model based on the principles of Permaculture and international solidarity. The concept has quickly turned out to be African Way's strategy of dealing with the challenges of inequalities faced by our African members and the decolonization of mindsets from both sides. The hands-on work included the construction of a garden kitchen, compost toilets and introduction to Permaculture to local farmers for social and environmental regeneration. The Eco Camp space at Monte Cardal outside Montemor-o-Novo now serve as a community space where we share what we can do together, resolve our differences, and have fun.
The highest goal achieved in this exercise is the creation of a friendship space where people are coming to experience joy and feel at peace with nature.
Through this space we are building reciprocal relationships and an ecological space where we come to dream together, experiencing many acts of compassion and generosity, and building hope of opportunity for positive change. Together with the community of Montemor-o-Novo we were able to examine their climate footprint and strategize on the integration of the AW team and helping compatriots in the Ambazonian struggle to stay alive promising to work more with the great minds of our associates in correcting the human wrongs in western democracies which require that development be based on the subjugation of other cultures.
From the African Way General Assembly which held on 15 December we examined the aim and higher purpose of our work and resolved on:
